What This Extension Does

KPop Lyrics Helper is a Chrome extension that reads Korean CC (closed caption) subtitles from YouTube videos and displays:

Romanized pronunciation of the Korean lyrics
English translation via Google Translate

Everything happens locally in your browser. We do not operate any servers or databases.

Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, transmit, or share:

Personal identification information (name, email, age, etc.)
Browsing history or watch history
Location data
Financial or authentication information
Any user activity or behavioral data

Third-Party Services

When translation is enabled, the text of the on-screen caption (Korean lyrics) is sent to Google Translate API (translate.googleapis.com) for translation. This is the only external network request the extension makes.

The caption text consists solely of song lyrics displayed publicly on YouTube — no personal user data is included. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles this data.

Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's storage API to save your display preferences (e.g., whether romanization or translation is shown) and the position of the floating panel. This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to any server.

Permissions Explained

activeTab — Allows the extension to read caption elements on the currently active YouTube tab.
storage — Saves your panel position and display preferences locally.
youtube.com — Required to run the caption detection on YouTube pages.
translate.googleapis.com — Required to send caption text for translation.

Children's Privacy

This extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
